Earlier this year, Peoples Gas petitioned the commission for what would be a record-setting increase of $402 million. This would lead to an average increase of $11.83 a month for each customer. There’s been fierce opposition and charges that it will disadvantage Black and brown Chicagoans who are already struggling to pay their bills.
