Ald. Anthony Beale (9th Ward) has been trying to introduce a non-binding referendum that would allow residents to vote on whether Chicago should continue to be a “sanctuary city.” The debate over this led to accusations of “bullying” against 35th Ward Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, who eventually resigned as floor leader and chair of the council’s Zoning Committee. Instead of the sanctuary city referendum, Mayor Johnson’s allies put forth an alternative that would introduce “reasonable limits” on providing financial and housing support for migrants.

Reset gets a city council update and learns what happens next.
