Duane Davis, 74, lives in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he’s been a music teacher for decades. One of his former students is Brooke Zino, 29, who lives in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Brooke reached out to her mentor as part of our StoryCorps series, and the two talked about how they’ve both had to work to overcome self-doubt.
Duane says he felt out of place when he formally started studying music after high school.
