Report finds Chicago’s arts scene is in ‘crisis’
Due to budget reductions, arts organizations and museums had nearly two-thirds fewer offerings in 2022 compared to 2019, the study found.
A new report commissioned by Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events paints an uncertain future for arts and cultural organizations in the city. The report illuminates challenges — such as dwindling ticket sales, rising inflation and an end to pandemic relief — as well as some bright spots for small and medium-budget organizations, specifically those representing people of color.
Reset speaks with an author of the report as well as leaders in arts organizations to better understand the situation and plan for the future.
GUESTS: Zannie Voss, director, SMU DataArts
Leslé Honoré, poet, CEO of Urban Gateways
Kacie Smith, director of programs, Arts Alliance Illinois
