Pivot Gang, KAINA and Marquis Hill will headline Vocalo’s end-of-summer bash

The free event from WBEZ’s sister station is part of a slate of events to celebrate Millennium Park’s 20th anniversary.

Chicago Public Media’s Vocalo is heading to Millennium Park this September for the Summer Finale and will throw a party featuring Pivot Gang, Marquis Hill and KAINA.

The free event, held 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 20, is part of programming from Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) to celebrate Millennium Park’s 20th anniversary.

Pivot Gang is a hip-hop collective of independent artists including Saba, Joseph Chilliams, Frsh Waters, MFnMelo and DaeDae. The group is based out of Chicago’s West Side and is known for its annual John Walt Day show, the proceeds of which are meant to support young artists and families in the city.

Marquis Hill is an internationally known trumpet player, composer and bandleader from Chicago’s South Side. His mission is to bring different styles of music together, including contemporary and classic jazz, hip-hop, R&B, Chicago house and neo-soul.

Latina songstress KAINA is also a Chicago native, and her music spans a range of sounds from pop to soul, R&B to salsa.

Vocalo was among five cultural organizations that received $150,000 grants from DCASE to produce events for the 20th anniversary summer season. WBEZ’s sister station at 91.1 FM, Vocalo is a multi-platform urban alternative music destination and a pillar of Chicago Public Media’s arts and culture expansion, reflecting Chicago’s distinct cultural and creative fabric through its focus on new music.

The park’s anniversary programming will be in addition to the annual music festivals, film and music series, workouts and family programming that make up a quintessential Chicago summer.
