The Chicago Children’s Museum is gunning to move from Navy Pier to downtown’s Grant Park. Tonight, the plan could pass through its first bureaucratic hoop.

Since the Children’s museum wants to be in Grant Park, the Chicago Park District needs to give its OK. That’s likely to happen tonight at the district’s board meeting.

Opponents like Mark Heller plan to attend the meeting anyway. Heller says his Logan Square neighborhood would be a better fit for a new Children’s Museum.

HELLER: If this is really about children, bring that museum where there are a whole lot of children and all of the children of Chicago can come to visit it. It’s a lot more transit accessible than downtown which is frequently gridlocked from special events.

Proponents of the Children’s Museum relocation plan say Grant Park is an ideal location. They say the museum could benefit from foot-traffic that spills over from nearby Millennium Park.
