Federal Trade Commission sues to block merger of Mariano’s and Jewel parent companies
Eight states joined the FTC in attempting to block a massive grocery merger, which would affect Jewel-Osco and Mariano’s stores.
The FTC cited concerns that the merger of Kroger and Albertsons, the parent companies of Mariano’s and Jewel-Osco respectively, would lessen competition and increase prices for consumers. Additionally, there are concerns that the merger would affect worker’s ability to seek higher wages and better benefits.
