A broad coalition of unions that work at City Colleges of Chicago is coming together to demand public hearings about changes at their schools. At a packed town hall meeting last night, many said that consolidating academic and training programs to certain campuses, and raising part-time tuition will limit opportunities for low-income and minority students.
Aldermen who were there said City Council isn’t likely to hold hearings on these changes anytime soon — because Mayor Rahm Emanuel has yet to appoint a new Education Committee chair.
