The city of Chicago is eyeing a vacant lot in Brighton Park to serve as a winterized base camp to house migrants. Last week, Ald. Julia Ramirez of the 12th Ward went to a protest outside of the site to hear resident’s concerns and it turned violent. The alderwoman is calling on the mayor for more transparency and community engagement to creatively meet the challenge of welcoming new arrivals.
