Since it was implemented in July, Cook County has seen the controversial penny-per-ounce soda tax in effect. Though the fight to pass the tax was hard-won, the battle isn’t over, as Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and commissioners who voted in favor of the tax continue to face backlash from residents and merchants. And political opponents were quick to use this issue to their advantage.
