Abortion-rights supporters packed Chicago’s Federal Plaza on Friday evening, then flooded the street to march against the Supreme Court’s decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.
“In Illinois, we trust women,” Gov. JB Pritzker said at the rally. “We will not sit back and let women be treated as second-class citizens by a bunch of retrograde politicians and judges.”
Friday’s ruling to overturn the landmark 1973 decision that gave constitutional protections for abortion came just over a month after the stunning leak of a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito indicating the court intended to take this step.
