Steve James, the award-winning filmmaker behind Hoop Dreams and The Interrupters has created a 5-hour documentary that takes viewers beyond The Bean and shows the triumphs and struggles of real Chicagoans trying to carve out a life in a modern, “quintessentially American” city. It blew away audiences at Sundance, and you can see it without commercials Thursday 10/29 on the National Geographic channel.
