“A local immigrant rights group wants to make the world aware of the problems facing immigrant families in the U.S.

Deportation is more than just a legal matter.

It can be a family matter, too.

Illegal immigrants who are sent home sometimes leave behind a legal spouse or child.

Center without Borders is a Chicago-based group tackling the issue.

Recently, the group traveled to Mexico to meet with Latin American leaders.

President Emma Lozano says many officials there aren’t aware the U.S. allows immigrant families to be split up.

Lozano says, ""They don’t know. They have no clue. They look at the United States as this democracy and human rights, and they don’t realize they’re destroying families.""

Center without Borders made its appeal to Mexican senators and South American ambassadors.

It hopes they will pressure the U.S. to stop the deportations.
