We’re expecting to see some snowfall around the Chicago area today and tomorrow — not too much, but enough to get some of us wondering about that most Chicago of debates and arguments: dibs. 

Every winter, from the first major snowfall until the last of the slush melts, neighbors face off in a battle for a clear parking spot on a snowy street.

And we’ve all seen the main weapon in the dibs arsenal: the folding chair.

So we’re asking Chicago: Is dibs a time-honored local custom, or an eyesore that needs to be abolished once and for all?
