The Middle Fork of the Vermillion River — Illinois’ only scenic river— has just been named one of the most endangered in the country. American Rivers, a nonprofit conservation group that releases an annual report highlighting the 10 most threatened waterways in the U.S., cites seeping coal ash from the nearby shuttered coal plant.
