One of Chicago’s highest profile land-use issues is now closer to a resolution. The Chicago Plan Commission last night approved The Children’s Musuem’s proposed move from Navy Pier to Grant Park.

Early on last night, it was clear the Chicago Plan Commission meeting would take more than eight hours. Still, Commissioner Lyneir Richardson thought the discussion was moving too fast.

RICHARDSON: Are we making a decision that will have implications about Grant Park for the next fifty years. I mean, every year there could be a new development proposed.

Richardson’s concern surprised Children’s Museum President Jennifer Farrington. Farrington says the museum had drafted five museum plans.

FARRINGTON: I’m here to tell you that the requirements are not minimal and I’m the first one to say this is a very difficult process.

In the end, a majority of commissioners thought the museum would not threaten the integrity and enjoyment of Grant Park. The proposal still requires Chicago City Council approval.
