Chicago school officials showed off a re-opened Dyett High School on Thursday.

Dyett was closed in June 2015 as district officials insisted there weren’t enough neighborhood students to keep it open. But after community activists staged a 34-day hunger strike last fall, the district gave in.

The high school in the South Side neighborhood of Washington Park has an arts and technology focus. For its reopening, it was given a $14 million renovation and an innovation lab designed by the founder of Chicago’s tech hub 1871. It also has a new dance studio, art gallery and a room where students can learn stage lighting.
