Manganese is a type of metal used to make steel that contains toxins linked to nervous system damage. Last month, the city of Chicago announced a safety agreement with S.H. Bell, a company that stores manganese in a facility on the Southeast Side. The company will now keep the metal inside and not transport it during high winds.
