People in west suburban Broadview are bracing for cuts in their fire and police departments. The police force will have to cut 10 positions by June.

That doesn’t sit well with Police Chief Ray Pelletier. He says Broadview can’t afford to lose a new squad formed to fight gangs.

“They have basically stopped the intimidation factor and they’ve been going after the drug dealers and chasing them out of town or arresting them. This will have to be disbanded,” he says.

The Broadview fire department is poised to cut 10 jobs as well.

Village Mayor Henry Vilcinik says the cuts are necessary to avoid financial collapse.

The Village of Broadview will hold a public meeting on the budget within the next several weeks.
