Joshua X. Miller is a native Chicagoan artists and educator. He started his career as an actor and playwright at Millikin University, where he graduated with honors. During his time there he was part of creating the President’s Commission on Inclusive Excellence, which worked to improve the experience of diverse student populations. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. His activism can be seen in the plays that he writes and the films that he creates. He has recently finished a one act play called At Arm’s Length. He is currently a teaching artist with Civic Studios, teaching film production. As a lifelong learner teaching has allowed him the opportunity to learn more about his own artistic style. He has had the honor of preforming on Shakespeare’s Globe stage, Stillwell Institute for Contemporary Black Art, and MPAACT Theatre. His passion for theatre led him to create the Griot Theatre Collective with 6 other Chicago artist. Griot produces new works and carves out a space for BIPOC theatre in the south suburbs. His passion for storytelling is seen in his documentary about the late Joseph F. Beam. For My Brother, details the life of the writer, poet, and activist and discusses the times and the effect AIDS had on the Black gay community. Joshua prides himself in the work that he does for his community whether it be in education, on the stage or on the screen, he is devoted to spreading knowledge as well as learning from the stories he tells and shares.
