When Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year, thousands of Chicagoans with ties to Ukraine began to gather, mourning as a collective, reaching out for communal support and seeking respite from the painful news. They also rallied, exclaiming solidarity with the Ukrainian resistance from 5,000 miles away.
WBEZ reporter Anna Savchenko, who is Ukrainian, bore witness to the rallies as both a compatriot and a Chicago journalist. She’ll shed light on local stories of heartache and sources of hope. And more stories are on the way.
Join Anna and other WBEZ reporters on Thursday, August 11 for an open mic night at the EZ Inn in Ukrainian Village. All are welcome to attend, and anyone with a personal connection to the war in Ukraine is welcome to share their story, whether it’s long or short. Ready to share yours?
